People applying for Adult Disability Payment can do so while waiting on a medical diagnosis.

If you are now living with a physical or mental health condition, disability or long-term illness, you could be eligible for Personal Independence Payment or Adult Disability Payment . It’s important to be aware that the condition itself won’t automatically qualify someone for PIP or AADP, however, if your condition has caused difficulties with daily living or getting around for three months and is expected to continue for at least a further nine months, you might be eligible.

According to ADP guidance from Citizens Advice Scotland, you can make a claim for the devolved payment in advance. The date of your claim is the date you meet all of the conditions. Below is an overview of PIP and ADP. Even though new claims for PIP have been replaced in Scotland by ADP, it shares most of the same eligibility criteria. Full guidance on ADP can be found on the MYGOV.SCOT website here.

Latest Benefits News How are PIP and ADP paid? PIP and ADP are usually paid every four weeks unless you are terminally ill, in which case it is paid weekly. It will be paid directly into your bank, building society or credit union account. ADP is paid at the same rates as PIP.
