“Years later, he moved into the world of Philippine theater with a bang, first with “Angels in America Parts 1 & 2,” then with “Rent,” which became a theatrical phenomenon, the likes of which I have never quite seen again. “After more than a decade of not working with him, there was one musical that Atlantis was doing that I absolutely loved, and had just watched on Broadway.“When auditions were announced, I knew I had to give it a shot. “Rock of Ages” in 2012 marked my second round with Atlantis, and this time I stayed for the long run. This musical was a milestone in my heart because it was my first conscious manifestation of a role I wanted to do.
“He was tremendously professional, and I remember being able to set your clock around an Atlantis rehearsal. “He was also an unforgiving taskmaster, demanding a degree of professionalism from everyone involved that I very rarely see these days. “He summed it up perfectly in two ways, which proved to be so invaluable and funny to me over the years: ‘Jamie, you used to be the biggest pasaway in theater, now you’re in charge of all the pasaway!’
“So, with a few tears at the loss of the chance to play the big green ogre, I hunkered down and got to work, and the shows were phenomenal.
