Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre reveals his priorities, rewards rivals and supporters with ‘inflation-busting’ shadow cabinet
OTTAWA—Rivals, supporters and even one MP who threatened to quit have been handed high-profile jobs under new Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre as he continues to put his stamp on the party after his decisive leadership victory one month ago.
“I am proud to announce our hard-working and strong team that will take on Trudeau and his costly coalition and their plans to continue to cripple the Canadian economy and make life more costly for Canadians,” he said in a statement. Quebec MP Gérard Deltell will serve as environment critic, while Atlantic MP Rick Perkins is the watchdog on the innovation, science and industry portfolio.
To flesh out the critics jobs, Poilievre had been meeting individually with his MPs in the weeks since his win to talk about their ambitions and priorities. On Poilievre’s agenda was even a chat with former leader Erin O’Toole, whose ouster by his own MPs in February launched the leadership race.
