GALLERY: Kids the big winners at ‘Soo Sings’

The tenth anniversary of 'Soo Sings For Kids' was — as always — a crowd-pleaser. With at least 1,000 tickets sold, the audience was large and loudly appreciative.

It was also very generous, which means participating groups were able to donate more to the children's charity of their choice than any year before. ‘Harmonies For Hope’ from the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board won the competition for the third time, with their $5,500 prize going toward the Children and Adolescent Psychiatry unit at Sault Area Hospital.

The second-place prize of $4,000 went to ‘Collective Voices,’ which donated it to The Twinkie Foundation. The group consists of employees from the city of Sault Ste. Marie, Maximus Rose, Benefits Inc., Air Canada, Dawson and Keenan Insurance, Monument-Urso Surveying, DSSAB, RBC, Starbucks, and SK Group.

Third-place was awarded to ‘The Metronomes,’ a brand new group from Metro stores in the Sault. The group consisted of 14 members, 11 of whom had never been on a stage before. They will be donating their $3,000 prize to Easter Seals. Each of the other five groups left the Community Theatre at White Pines with $1,750 for their children's charity of choice.
