The Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP) is confident that the country's power grid will avoid red and yellow alerts in 2025 due to adequate power supply and the La Niña weather phenomenon, which is expected to bring cooler temperatures. IEMOP vice president Isidro Cacho stated that although peak demand is projected to be slightly higher, the La Niña effect and planned maintenance shutdowns will mitigate the risk of power shortages.

The Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines expressed confidence there would be no red and yellow alerts in the power grid next year on the back of adequate power supply and the projected La Niña weather phenomenon that will result in cooler temperatures.

A red alert status is issued when power supply is insufficient to meet consumer demand and the transmission grid’s regulating requirement, while a yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.Cacho said they are optimistic that there will be no red and yellow alerts during the dry months next year as the power plants already scheduled their maintenance shutdown.
