The Philippine government is investing heavily in modernizing its airports to enhance safety, efficiency, and passenger experience.
The national government has invested more than P12 billion for the modernization of several airports across the country this year, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said on Thursday, Jan. 9. CAAP director general Manuel Antonio Tamayo said the investment includes P10.6 billion for civil works and P1.8 billion for equipment and systems upgrades for 2025.
These efforts align with CAAP’s mission to modernize aviation infrastructure and strengthen the country’s global competitiveness in the aviation sector, said Tamayo. These investments also underscored the government’s commitment to enhancing airport facilities, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring a safer and more seamless travel experience for passengers, he added. Among the priority projects, according to Tamayo, are the night-rating upgrades of Cauayan, Dipolog, and Pagadian airports that will allow safe and efficient night operations to address increasing air traffic demands. He said Bukidnon Airport is also on track to begin operations for general aviation by the first quarter of 2025. These modernization efforts are projected to boost tourism and trade, enhance airport operations, and improve passenger experiences. In the long term, they aim to support economic growth by fostering stronger connectivity across the archipelago, said Tamayo
