The Israeli Embassy in the Philippines partnered with the Department of Education to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day at the National Museum of Natural History in Manila. The event featured a photo exhibit, the lighting of six candles, and speeches emphasizing the importance of combating antisemitism and promoting tolerance.

The Embassy of Israel in the Philippines joined forces with the Department of Education (DepEd) to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day at the National Museum of Natural History in Manila on January 31, 2025.

This annual event coincides with the United Nations General Assembly's designation of January 27th as International Holocaust Remembrance Day, a solemn day dedicated to remembering the victims of the Holocaust, a horrific period in history where one-third of the Jewish population was systematically murdered solely based on their religious identity. Israeli Ambassador Ilan Fluss emphasized the significance of Holocaust remembrance, stating, 'Holocaust remembrance is not just about looking back. It is a commitment to confronting hatred, denial and distortion. The fight against antisemitism continues today, and we must be unwavering in our resolve to fight it, including through education.' Ambassador Fluss expressed alarm over the rising global tide of antisemitism, including within the Philippines. He stressed the urgency to combat this hateful ideology and prevent its spread. The Ambassador extended his gratitude to DepEd, under the leadership of Secretary Sonny Angara, for their collaboration in making the event possible and their ongoing commitment to Holocaust remembrance within educational institutions. DepEd Curriculum and Teaching Undersecretary Gina Gonong echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of education in shaping a future where unity prevails over division. She emphasized that the commemoration served as a reminder to instill values of tolerance, acceptance, and rejection of hate among the youth. The event also featured a poignant photo exhibit and the symbolic lighting of six candles, each representing the six million Jews who perished during the Holocaust. This act was performed by Ambassador Fluss, German Ambassador Andreas Michael Pfaffernoschke, Usec. Gonong, Jewish Community in the Philippines President Salito Malca, Quezon-Avanceña, and DepEd learner Rhian May Gonzales
