Colonel Allen Rae Co, the agency's spokesperson, explained that the police are aware of a disconnect between the data that indicates a downturn in crime and the heightened fear among citizens caused by recent high‑profile incidents that have circulated widely on social media. He stressed that while the official figures point to a significant decline, the emotions expressed by people on the street cannot be dismissed and that the police are working to align the numbers more closely with community sentiment.

These crimes, which encompass murder, homicide, robbery, theft, rape, physical injury, and vehicle and motorcycle theft, fell from 9,506 incidents in the prior three‑month period to 7,883 between April 6 and July 4.
While the figures are credible to seasoned law‑enforcement analysts, they attracted scrutiny online after a series of violent events, such as separate killings of motorcyclists in Cavite and Caloocan that were captured on video, went viral. Netizens questioned whether the reported decline reflected the true state of peace and order in the streets. The police leadership cautions that the numbers must be read in the context of nationwide trends rather than isolated events.
In a remark that aimed to placate anxious observers, Co said that the media's coverage of sensational cases has understandably amplified fear across the population and that his office is mindful of this perspective. He added that Metro Manila's focus‑crime reduction of seven percent is modest compared to larger provincial declines of more than 50 percent, thereby contributing to the overall national decrease.
