The Board of Investments (BOI) and Arizona State University (ASU) hosted a workshop for 51 faculty members from 12 Philippine educational institutions. The ITSI Semiconductor Faculty Certification Program aimed to upgrade academic curricula and cultivate a skilled workforce for the local semiconductor industry.
Acting Director Ronaldo Buluran of the BOI's Manufacturing Industries Service (MIS) emphasized the growing demand for semiconductors in the Philippines and the crucial role faculty play in shaping the industry's future. The ITSI Fund, part of the US CHIPS and Science Act, supports global semiconductor supply chains. The Philippines, designated as a strategic country, received USD 13.8 million to bolster workforce development and public policy reforms within the semiconductor sector. Dr. Danilo Lachica, President of the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines, Inc. (SEIPI), Mr. Luke Mendoza of the Office of the Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs (OSAPIEA), and Dr. May Rose Imperial, Chair of the Technical Committee for Electronics Engineering of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), addressed the current state of the Philippine semiconductor industry
