MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Los Angeles has urged Filipinos impacted by the recent wildfires to reach out to the American Red Cross (ARC) to determine their eligibility for financial aid. In a Facebook advisory, the PCG stated that the American Red Cross is actively contacting wildfire survivors to discuss their potential access to monetary assistance.
An estimated 200 Filipinos have been affected by the wildfires in Southern California and surrounding regions. The PCG advised Filipinos and Filipino-Americans to visit the ARC's website to learn more about how to receive this financial aid. The PCG shared the ARC's announcement, which reads, 'If you've been impacted by wildfires in Southern California, the American Red Cross is here to help you recover.' The ARC also emphasized that it is currently reaching out to wildfire survivors to discuss their eligibility for financial assistance. \'In addition to assisting those currently in our shelters, we will also begin providing financial assistance to Californians who lived within the fire perimeters of Eaton, Palisades, Hurst, and Kenneth, as defined by Cal OES,' it stated. The ARC assured that its assistance is not considered a duplication of benefits for insurance or government agencies. It added, 'The Red Cross is only part of the solution to recovery and we encourage people who were affected by the recent wildfires to apply for federal disaster assistance.' \The ARC further clarified that 'FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) approval is not required to be eligible for Red Cross financial assistance.' The organization reiterated its commitment to providing individuals affected by the devastating wildfires with safe shelter, access to food, basic health services, and emotional support
