The Philippine Army's 10th Infantry Division has successfully weakened the New People's Army's Southern Mindanao Regional Committee, bringing it to an 'inconsequential level' and effectively ending its operations.

The Philippine Army 's 10th Infantry Division has significantly weakened the New People's Army ( NPA ) Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC), reducing its armed members from 16 Guerilla Fronts, with a company size of 60-80 members each, and 9 vertical units responsible for ambushes and harassments, to just 10. Major Ruben Gadut, the spokesperson for the 10th Infantry Division, stated that the military aims to completely dismantle the SMRC as a whole.

He explained that dismantling the SMRC would be a major victory, allowing them to then target the regional party committee. Gadut reported that the SMRC, which once operated across multiple provinces in Caraga Region, had been significantly reduced by the end of 2024. He highlighted a recent clash on December 8th in Boston, Davao Oriental, where the 701st Infantry Brigade engaged with NPA remnants. This resulted in the recovery of a grenade launcher and medical kits by government forces. There were no casualties on the government side, while the SMRC members fled in different directions. This victory in Boston, according to Gadut, dealt a major blow to the SMRC's operations in Davao Region. On December 28th, a joint police-military operation led to the arrest of two SMRC members in Talomo, Davao City. This operation, along with previous successes, has significantly weakened the once-powerful local terrorist group, reducing them to an 'inconsequential level' and hindering their capacity to conduct ambushes and extortion activities. Gadut expressed optimism that the decline in SMRC's strength would lead to a more peaceful environment in Davao Region. He noted that since 2022, there have been no reported extortion activities by the SMRC
