The Philippine Army is gearing up for sustained modernization to improve the country’s territorial defense, according to Army Chief Lt. Gen. Roy Galido, who recently conducted a command conference. Speaking to soldiers in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City earlier this week, Galido outlined his vision for transforming the Army to meet evolving security challenges.The conference, which marked the first for the year, reviewed the Army’s transition from internal security operations to a focus on territorial defense. Galido also assessed key accomplishments, and discussed updates on plans and programs.
“As we move from internal security to territorial defense and fulfill our mission of completely eliminating all security threats, we will continue to transform the Army,” Galido said, noting the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ campaign plan“We intend to set forth every effort to modernize the Army’s capabilities and equipment while making sure that our personnel prepared and improved skills to ensure our ability to secure the country,” he added.
