The Philippine Army's 104th Infantry Battalion, with Batobalani Foundation Inc., held a book and feeding drive for 250 pupils at Bulikullul Panglima Iqbal Elementary School in Siasi, Sulu.

The Philippine Army's 104th Infantry Battalion (104IB) led a book-giving and feeding activity on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, benefiting at least 250 pupils of Bulikullul Panglima Iqbal Elementary School in Siasi, Sulu. The event was supported by the Batobalani Foundation Inc. and aimed to expand access to learning materials while promoting reading and continuous learning.

Military and Community Collaboration

The activity was led by 2nd Lieutenant Ma. Kristina Ramos, acting civil-military operations officer, under the direction of Lieutenant Colonel Joelito Guanzon, acting commanding officer of the 104IB. Guanzon said on Saturday, October 3, that the books were donated by the Batobalani Foundation Inc. to help pupils gain better access to educational resources.

Joining Ramos during the activity were Bulikullul Village Councilor Aisin Pungutan and school principal Khalid Jaitoni. Their presence underscored the partnership among the Philippine Army, school officials, village leaders, and the local community in supporting education and youth development.

Promoting Education and Youth Development

Guanzon emphasized that the initiative highlighted the importance of collaboration among government agencies, private organizations, schools, and communities in promoting education and nurturing responsible and capable young people. He noted that the feeding component complemented the book donation by addressing the pupils' nutritional needs, which are essential for effective learning.

The 104IB is one of the subordinate units of the 1102nd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army's 11th Infantry Division. The battalion's involvement in civil-military operations reflects the broader role of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in supporting community development, particularly in underserved areas.

The book and feeding drive not only provided immediate material support but also aimed to strengthen cooperation among various stakeholders. By working together, the Philippine Army, the Batobalani Foundation Inc., local officials, and the school community sought to create a more supportive environment for the pupils' education.

Continuing Support for Education

The activity in Siasi, Sulu, is part of ongoing efforts to improve educational outcomes in remote communities. Access to books and nutritious meals can significantly impact a child's ability to learn and stay in school. The 104IB's initiative demonstrates how military units can contribute to these goals through civic action programs.

According to Guanzon, the drive also encouraged reading and promoted continuous learning among the pupils. The books donated by the Batobalani Foundation Inc. are expected to enhance the school's library or classroom resources, giving students more opportunities to develop their literacy skills.

The collaboration between the military and the foundation, along with local leaders and school staff, serves as a model for similar projects in other areas. It shows that coordinated efforts can address multiple needs, from educational materials to nutrition, in a single activity.

Overall, the book and feeding drive at Bulikullul Panglima Iqbal Elementary School provided tangible benefits to 250 pupils while reinforcing the value of partnerships in community development. The 104IB and its partners remain committed to supporting education and youth development in Sulu and beyond.
