The government health insurer said Thursday it is reviewing case rate packages for COVID-19 in light of calls to scrap the system as a 'root of corruption.'
The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation said it will also tap an expert panel to go over its in-patient packages.
"We are actually reviewing our case rates for COVID," said Israel Pargas, senior vice president for the health finance policy sector, in an online media briefing., saying the agency already lost ₱154 billion to the case rate method. The case rate system began in 2011, with a separate circular released in 2013, allowing the agency to implement a uniform rate for the provision of health care to certain diseases whether admitted to public or private hospitals.
PhilHealth is facing controvery over claims that it lost P15 billion to fraud which allegedly involves some top officials. PhilHealth chief Ricardo Morales and other executives have denied the allegations.
