THE Philippines and Japan signed an agreement on May 17, Friday, for the procurement of five 97-meter class patrol vessels for the Philippine Coast Guard .The acquisition will be funded by the 64.38 billion yen worth of official development assistance loan under the third phase of the Maritime Safety Capability Improvement Project for the PCG .The agreement was signed by Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo and Japan ese Ambassador to the Philippines Endo Kazuya.

He said the inclusion of a shore-based communications system in the MSCIP I Project reflects a proactive response to enhance communication between shore stations and vessels, crucial for ensuring maritime safety and security, particularly in light of recent developments in the West Philippine Sea.The Exchange of Notes for the MSCIP III and the Human Resource Development Scholarship project was graced by representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
