Political commentator Peter van Onselen breached a non-disparagement agreement he signed with his former employer Network Ten when he wrote a story documenting the network’s financial woes, a judge has found.

Lawyers for Ten brought urgent proceedings in the NSW Supreme Court, arguing the story was at odds with an agreement van Onselen made when he took redundancy from the broadcaster in March. In a hearing last month, the court was told van Onselen had been Ten’s political editor from December 2018 until he was told in February this year that the position would be relocated to Canberra. He refused to relocate and instead took a $165,000 redundancy.
