Dominic Perrottet has been forced to defend a Liberal Party candidate in regional NSW who until recently was representing a community in Sydney.
Melanie Gibbons put her hand up to be the party's pick in the Kiama electorate on the state's south coast not long before nominations closed ahead of the March 25 poll.
Ms Gibbons held onto the seat in 2019 with a 3.3 per cent margin but lost Liberal Party preselection to Tina Ayyad in November last year. She was also reported to have been considered for a spot on the Liberal Party's Legislative Council ticket at this month's election but was ultimately not included.
"And she's got a strong track record. Mel Gibbons has a strong track record in the NSW Parliament and I know she'll make a significant contribution. "Mel Gibbons is a fighter for her community and I'll know she'll make a great contribution for the people of Kiama and the great people of NSW."
