Justice Secretary Menardo I. Guevarra on Tuesday, June 9, said that the person who “fried a towel” instead of a piece of chicken at the branch of food chain Jollibee may be charged criminally.
“On the Jollibee incident, the perpetrator may be charged with violation of the relevant provisions of the Food Safety Act of 2013 and the Consumer Act of the Philippines,” Guevarra said.
Jollibee had already issued an apology over the incident. “We are deeply concerned about this matter and have conducted thorough investigation on the incident,” it said. Jollibee said it had its branch involved closed for three days “to thoroughly review its compliance with procedures and retrain its store team to ensure that this will not happen again.”
