KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 12,800 contract doctors are expected to be absorbed into permanent positions within the next three years, says the Prime Minister.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government, through Budget 2023, had allocated an amount of RM19.7bil for emoluments, which saw an increase of RM3bil from the previous years.
With the allocation in place, Anwar said 12,800 contract doctors would be in permanent positions in three years.“I hope that everyone can understand that we don’t have any intention to look down as they have been serving us well,” he added. In an immediate reaction to Anwar’s announcement, the president of the Malaysian Medical Association, Dr Muruga Raj, said the news provided some certainty for affected doctors.
“The fact that there are now 4,300 permanent positions instead of 1,500 which was committed to in Budget 2023 shows that it is indeed possible for more permanent positions to be created.
