Davao City's People's Park will be renovated this year with a budget of P100 million. Despite the exciting improvements, the park will face a temporary closure to facilitate the work.
The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO)-Parks and Playground Division has announced that People's Park in Davao City will undergo renovations this year. While the exact date of closure is still to be determined, Engr. Juancho Dagasohan, head of CENRO’s Parks and Playground Division, stated during the ISpeak media forum on February 13, 2025, that the closure could occur at any time depending on the schedule set by the City Engineer's Office (CEO).
The city government has allocated P100 million for the park's total repair and renovation. The project is currently in its final planning stages. Although the park will undergo phased renovations, there will be a period of full closure. However, access to the National Museum of the Philippines in Davao will remain open to the public during the construction period.Spanning four hectares, People's Park is one of Davao City's premier attractions, boasting a cultural-themed landscape with a mini-forest, man-made waterfalls, a dancing fountain, a fishpond, a children's playground, and the iconic durian dome. It is a popular destination for jogging, fitness activities, and school events, and admission is free to the public. Originally a project of then-mayor and former President Rodrigo R. Duterte, the park was developed from the defunct Palaruang Panlungsod of the Philippine Tourism Authority. The city government invested P72 million in its transformation before its inauguration in December 2007. Further updates on the renovation schedule will be provided as plans progress.
