“My son is only three and a half. We just went outside on the patio looking at the stars and I heard the shots. He started screaming and crying,” said the Morrison Road resident, who didn’t want to be named because she fears reprisals for reporting incidents to Natural Resources.“That’s way too close.”

The woman said the family reported three incidents this month in the area of their home, which is surrounded by woods on three sides.On one of the occasions, they were out at their fire pit when they heard shots. Another time they were in the living room, and the shots were loud enough to be heard inside.Morrison Road is located off Mira Road about 15 minutes outside Sydney. The woman said they’ve lived there for about five years and they haven’t heard of it before this year.

No one may hunt or discharge a firearm within 728 metres of a school or discharge a firearm within 400 metres of a dwelling, playground, golf course, athletic field, woods operation, place of business or public building. The public can report illegal activity through the department's Report a Poacher Program by calling 1-800-565-2224 or through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-8477. The person reporting the crime does not have to give their name.
