The iconic museum on Farquhar Street is currently undergoing restoration work.

State Museum and Art Gallery director Haryany Mohamad said the facelift would be carried out in two phases, with phase one slated for completion by the middle of next year.“We expect the museum to attract about 5,000 visitors a month once it is opened to the public,” she told Buletin Mutiara after a site inspection.Penang tourism and creative economy committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin was glad that the museum would reopen soon.

“Museums are considered an important aspect of our daily lives and visitors can look forward to seeing artefacts, digital technology displays and mock-ups of the old Penang Free School classrooms,” he said.“There are many museums in in other countries and I believe more should be established here as well,” he said.
