The organiser hoped the festival would spark deeper public appreciation of the hill’s remarkable biodiversity and heritage.
Held at the Dataran which is an open square adjacent to the upper funicular station, it was a befitting finale to the fourth edition of the three-day Penang Hill Festival 2023.They played orchestral classics and modern pieces before leaving the stage to the Boria Omara troupe whose lively sounds got the crowd moving.Kumaran Rajangam and Pravinraj Premkumar then performed a tabla and sitar duet with The Joyous Chinese Orchestra.
Student Grace Heng, 14, from Selangor, similarly enjoyed the music. She and her mother were in Penang to visit relatives. This year’s PHF coincided with the 100th anniversary of the Penang Hill railway, which began operations in 1923. The Sunrise and Time-Lapse Photography Workshop allowed shutterbugs to capture stunning snaps while the Crag Heritage Trail Talk and Walk highlighted the hill’s structures.
