BUTTERWORTH: The Penang Customs Department has foiled a drug trafficking attempt to a foreign country after seizing 1.4kg of drugs worth over RM132,000.
Its state director Hamisan Kalip said the drugs, declared as an organic food product, were confiscated during a check at the airport cargo complex in Batu Maung at 3.36pm on June 6.
He said the state customs narcotic unit from its enforcement division was informed about a suspicious parcel that was meant to be exported overseas by a famous courier company. "A check found three from the six containers in the 'supplement' beverage powder containing white powder believed to be heroin weighing about 1.4kg.
"The item was declared as 'Organic Meal Replacement' as if it looks like milk powder," he told a press conference at Penang Custom Complex here on Friday .He said the drugs were believed to be valued at RM132,375 and meant to be exported to an Oceanic country. He said so far no arrest was made but the Customs have identified the suspect who delivered the item to be exported based on close circuit television and the address of the parcel.to our Premium Plan for an ad-free and unlimited reading experience!
