It was a raucous and enthusiastic crowd that filled the venerable Miners Forum and, overall, that atmosphere is one of my favourite memories from my Games’ experience as we played four games there and two at the then brand-new Cape Breton County Recreation Centre, which was built for the Games, on the campus of the University College of Cape Breton , now justIn fact, our only two wins came in Glace Bay as we defeated the Northwest Territories and Manitoba to go along with losses to B.C.
For a few reasons, the plan fell through and head coach Danny Flynn – then Nova Scotia Hockey Association development co-ordinator – was left scrambling and quickly put together more selection camps and, in the second go-around, I made the squad. We only ended up with a handful of junior A players, mostly from the Cole Harbour Colts which, at the time, had both an ‘A’ and ‘B’ team and fulfilled the requirements.
Regardless of how I arrived there, I was going to make the most of it and when Flynn identified me and two of the Colts for having a good offensive tournament, I feel I did and it provided me with the confidence to elevate my game going forward. Cal wouldn’t have been an eventual Huskies teammate without my Games’ experience.
