The number of youth struggling with eating disorders is on the rise in Newfoundland and Labrador, that’s according to a pediatrician at the Janeway.
Dr. Anna Dominic specializes in the treatment of eating disorders in youth and says they’re seeing a rise in food-restriction illnesses such as anorexia. While there are often symptoms of ED’s, sometimes those struggling are able to hide the signs from their parents. She says some early signs are restriction of foods that a child would normally love and making changes to their diet such as suddenly becoming vegan or vegetarian.
