EPS policy regarding detainees states that walk-around physical checks must be performed every 15 minutes and arousal checks must be performed every hour, ASIRT said, and the latter involves waking and speaking with a detainee to confirm they are responsive an not in need of medical assistance. While the arousal check can be performed from outside the cell, a peace officer must enter the cell if there is no response.
