PCG rescues stranded children in Zamboanga City due to chest-deep floods

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Wednesday rescued children trapped in chest-deep floodwaters following incessant rains in Zamboanga City.

PCG Station Isabela also continues to monitor the families affected by flooding caused by continuous rains in Barangay Baluno, Isabela City, Basilan. Some of the houses were submerged in chest-deep floods.

Rescuers from PCG, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, provincial and city disaster risk reduction and management office were also on standby for the possible evacuation in other flooded areas. Meanwhile, the Philippine Ports Authority temporarily suspended passenger trips from Zamboanga to Tawi-Tawi, and Sulu to Tawi-Tawi due to the impending rain and low pressure area in the area.

“In view of the worsening weather condition brought by LPA and bad weather condition within Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan Strait, and Sulu Sea, Tawi-Tawi Coast Guard Station Zamboanga temporarily suspend voyages for all types of vessels/watercrafts plying Zamboanga to Basilan, sulu and Tawi-Tawi effective 111030h January 2023 as a proactive measures in order avert maritime accidents,” PPA said in an advisory.
