The Canucks have quite the collegiate tale in their ranks.

Turns out it’s a mix of good impressions and pure opportunity.“Opportunity and a team on the rise,” the Calgary native said of what sold him on the Vancouver Canucks after four years at Princeton University, where he’s set to earn a degree in mechanical engineering.

Former Clarkson University netminder Mike Kielly, who signed Monday and is already in Vancouver to work with goalie coach Ian Clark, noted the interest the Canucks had shown in him, between being at the 2018 summer development camp, knowing players like Brock Boeser — he’s played in the summer time Da Beauty League and they share agents — and Teves — they also faced each other in last year’s ECAC hockey championship — and an awareness that Canucks’ staff members were paying attention to him.

Opportunity, one guesses, must also be a part of how the Canucks nabbed Quinnipiac defenceman Brogan Rafferty. He’s a fast-skating right-sided defenceman. The Canucks, you may have heard, have little depth on the right side of their blue-line.
