Salah seorang kontinjen Malaysia berada di tengah-tengah ratusan ribu peserta semasa Misa Kudus pembukaan WYD.“Marilah kita belajar daripada Maria untuk memberi salam kepada setiap orang. Marilah kita bersungguh-sungguh mempraktikkan Hari Belia Sedunia ini,” kata Kardinal Manuel Clemente, patriark Lisbon selaku selebran utama Misa Kudus di Taman Eduardo VII, Ogos 1, 2023.

Misa pembukaan WYD memberi kesempatan kepada para belia sedunia untuk bersalaman, ber- kenalan dan berkumpul dalam doa, muzik dan gelak ketawa. Di sebalik rintangan itu, prelatus itu menekankan kepentingan memulakan perjalanan sebegitu dan menyamakannya dengan perjalanan kehidupan, di mana setiap hari menyajikan segmen baharu.Katanya, “Maria pergi ... dia masih muda dan baharu sahaja mengandung daripada Roh Kudus, tidak ada pengangkutan dan laluan itu sukar.
