A passenger from Madagascar was apprehended by government operatives at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for transporting six kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.
The drug courier, who was not identified by the Bureau of Customs , arrived on Sunday, March 12, from Hong Kong via Ethiopian Airlines flight ET644 and was originally from Madagascar, East Africa as port of origin.
His luggage was intercepted after personnel at the NAIA X-ray Inspection Project noticed a suspicious image which prompted Customs officials to physically examine the bag. It yielded the illegal substance as confirmed by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency. The BoC said the drugs have an estimated value of P40.8 million.
