OTTAWA—Call it whatever you want, but the Paris 2024 Olympics were wonderful to watch, and the performances of our Canadian athletes inspirational. Escapism? Delusion? No, for me, the first real post-pandemic Olympics without restrictions were a reminder of the amazing power of sport as unifier, motivator, and aspirational platform for young and old. I was fortunate to travel to Paris for the games. It was the second time I have attended, the first being Rio 2016.

While there is big money, big politics, and bad behaviour on many fronts, showcasing sport and its power for good can’t go amiss when reform or the rejection of the bad actors is possible. Our Canadian athletes did their country proud. First, a shout out to that determined and impassioned Canadian women’s soccer team.
