Man accused of stealing truck, smashing into two RCMP vehicles
KELVIN GROVE, P.E.I. — RCMP used police dogs to track down and arrest a 30-year-old Nova Scotia man in Kelvin Grove after he had crashed into two police SUVs and ran into the woods on Thursday.
East Prince RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious person in a parking lot on the Blue Shank Road just after 5 a.m. Police found a man sleeping in a three-quarter-ton pick-up truck and identified the truck as the one stolen from Cumberland, N.S. Mounties deployed conductive energy weapons, set up spike belts and readied their police cars to block the truck, however, the man smashed two RCMP SUVs and passed over the spike belts while driving away.
With his tires deflated from the belt, he ran off and was found a short distance away in some trees behind a home. Police dogs were used to find the man and help in the arrest. The suspect was bitten during the arrest. The man was set to appear in court later on Thursday to face a number of charges.It has been our privilege to have the trust and support of our East Coast communities for the last 200 years.
