On Monday, April 8, P.E.I. RCMP says heavy traffic is expected in western P.E.I. as people flock to watch the rare event. Drivers should plan the route and give more time for travel before setting out on their journey.With the darkest period set for about 4:35 p.m., drivers should expect sudden changes in lighting around that time, and should be mindful of the other road users, especially in areas where eclipse watchers gather.
Police also remind drivers not to be distracted by the eclipse, shoot photos and videos or wear eclipse glasses while driving. Drivers are asked to keep the headlights on while on the road and leave enough space between themselves and the car in front, especially in stop-and-go traffic. Drivers can stay updated on solar eclipse events and traffic conditions through local news outlets or official traffic updates.
