DAVAO CITY – Over 300 families in Digos City were forced to evacuate from their homes after heavy rain showers and floods hit some portions of Mindanao on Friday night.
In a statement early Monday morning, the City Information Office of Digos City said there were 235 families, which sought shelter at the Digos City Gym, and 66 families staying at the Digos City National High School Gym. In a live situation report at midnight, Samuel J. Miralles, Officer-in-Charge of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in Digos City, said the surging waters overwhelmed Caños Bridge, causing flooding in the city’s low-lying areas.
“We already dispatched our vehicles and responders in Aplaya, Dawis, Cogon, Silawilan, and Zone 1,” he said.He said no casualty has been recorded.
