KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 24,525 housing units involving 115 projects were abandoned in Peninsular Malaysia as of Jan 31, says the Local Government Development Ministry.

“Of the 115 projects, 47 of them are currently in the planning stage to find out the mechanism to revive the projects through mutual resolution between developers and buyers.

“Another 45 projects are already in the recovery stage while another 23 projects are currently static due to legal issues,” he said responding to Chong Zhemin in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday . Chong had asked for the total abandoned housing projects and the latest total of the gross development value .He also said that the government is committed towards more focused and strategic approaches regarding “sick projects” through the establishment of a task force.

“The task force would conduct fact-finding and due diligence to figure out the best ways to resolve private housing issues that are complicated,” he added. The deputy minister also said the ministry would act as a mediator between the developers, buyers and other stakeholders when it comes to resolving abandoned project issues.
