Former Labor senator Stephen Conroy has slammed RBA Governor Philip Lowe “twisting statistics” to support his reasoning for raising rates to 4.1 per cent.

“Prices actually drove up inflation substantially through last year, and then when it gets into this year, it says wages have started to have an impact, and that was from a national wage case decision last year which put the poorest Australians – he gave them a wage rise,” he told Sky News Australia.

“So this is absolutely outrageous in the way that the Reserve Bank Governor is twisting statistics to back his preordained view.”
