An "outrageous" amount of lost luggage has been seen sitting at Auckland Airport while fed-up travellers search for their missing possessions.

However, after spending about three weeks trying to track it down by phone she went to the airport where she was invited to look for it herself. The video she took shows lines of trolleys piled with luggage in front of kiosks housing Menzies and Swissport; companies providing ground services for airlines using the airport.

Mishandled bags are arriving daily at the airport in larger-than-usual volumes as the downstream impact of offshore disruption in the aviation system continues, the spokesperson said. An Auckland Airport spokesperson said in a statement that mishandled bags – the technical term for lost items – are always the responsibility of the airlines who sold travellers their tickets and not the airport.His suitcases were meant to travel from Singapore's Changi Airport to Auckland but when they failed to appear he reported the issue to Air NZ staff.

"I'm now growing a beard, which I don't want, I've had to buy underwear, T-shirts, clothing, toiletries... and I'm pretty pissed off with the whole thing."
