NSW Labor's latest election promise takes aim at soaring cost of living pressures, with the two year price cap on tolls saving commuters millions while a long term review takes place.
Opposition Leader Chris Minns announced the election commitment on Sunday which aims to combat soaring cost of living pressures and is estimated to save the average road user anywhere between $4500 to $7800 per year.
Mr Minns attacked the “secret tax” on NSW families during his announcement, with Labor’s proposal estimated to save commuters $147 million over two years. Meanwhile, Penrith to the CBD currently costs commuters $159 a week and would total $4,757 in annual savings under the scheme.This morning, he raised tolls by up to 6.1% in one go â the largest ever toll increase!The toll cap plan would be used concurrently with the M5 cashback scheme as well as last June’s $750 a year toll rebate scheme by the Perrottet Government.
