NSW saw its worst fire weather all season on Monday, and the threat still remains with one fire expected to have a large run across the state's landscape on Tuesday, writes Sky News Australia meteorologist Rob Sharpe.

Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong all saw their hottest weather in just over two years with the mercury reaching the mid to high 30s.Penrith had its first 40C autumn day in 25 years.Overnight, it was tough for those in the Harbour City trying to get to sleep, with the mercury slow to fall.This is hotter than anything in the last two summers.

Picture: NSW Rural Fire ServiceNSW firefighters battling blazes On Monday, New South Wales saw its worst fire weather for the season, seeing more than a dozen blazes get out of control.Overnight most fires were downgraded to the advice level. However the NSW RFS said 12 bush and grass fires were still yet to be contained as of Tuesday morning.

Firefighters are working on 33 bush and grass fires across NSW this morning . 12 are yet to be contained. Total fire bans are in place for the Central Ranges and Greater Hunter areas. Check the fire danger for your area at
