The Vancouver Whitecaps tossed him aside for a cheaper alternative, but David Ousted continues to thrive in MLS, including his latest stop — in Chicago
He went from being the Vancouver Whitecaps’ incumbent No. 1 goalkeeper to enduring an unceremonious demotion to the bench. And after four-and-a-half seasons with the only Major League Soccer club he’d known, he packed his bags for D.C. United before suffering through a nomadic experience as the team played its first 15 games on the road.
— D.C. United August 17, 2018But the ‘keeper with the cat-like reflexes landed on his feet, being claimed by the Chicago Fire in January. “I feel my game is where I want it to be, and I’m making the saves I want to make,” he said. “I felt my half year in DC, I did what I could to bring us into a good spot. I think I played well in a lot of the away games in tough situations, so from a personal perspective I was still happy with the product I put on the field.”
“I know we like to put an age on soccer, and on goalkeepers, but for me that’s nothing that I’m thinking about. As long as I do my things correctly, and continue to work hard, age is a number.” The team has just one goal from open play, tied for worst with the Portland Timbers, and they’re one of just three teams that have been shut out three times this season .
