The banner was created in consultation with families who have lost loved ones.

Our Place has unfurled a three-storey banner in front of its building on Pandora Avenue in Victoria as a memorial to members of the community who have lost their lives in the ongoing toxic drug crisis.

The banner bears the words “We Lost a Family Member Today” and is meant as a reminder of the daily toll of toxic drugs on the streets. “When the [Our Place] board heard about four deaths in just one week last fall, we asked CEO Julian Daly if anything could be done in a more public way to remember those we have lost, to acknowledge these staggering losses, and put a human face on this issue,” said Margo Goodhand, Our Place Society board chair.

“With Our Place staff and volunteers on the front line of this toxic drug crisis, the grief and daily trauma really hits hard.”
