This will mean drivers will likely see an increase of at least 3.3 cents per litre for gasoline as of July 1, 2023.The price hit could be even more significant in P.E.I. Since 2019, the provincial government has used revenue collected from the carbon levy to reduce provincial gas taxes, effectively shielding consumers from the price of carbon taxes.
But Island households can also expect to receive bigger cheques from the federal government. Guilbeault's letter says that"the bulk of direct proceeds" from the carbon levy will be returned in the form of rebate cheques.
