It was the kind of victory the Senators might have expected when the National Hockey League season began. Senators winger Alex DeBrincat flies through the crease in front of Flyers defenceman Nick Seeler and goalie Carter Hart in the third period of Saturday’s game. The turning point came when DeBrincat broke a 1-1 deadlock on the power play with only 49 seconds remaining in the second period, finishing off a pretty passing play that also involved Brady Tkachuk and Tim Stutzle.

The Senators could thank Talbot for letting them survive early on. He was outstanding, especially in the opening two periods, when the Flyers outshot the Senators 30-17. Senators centre Tim Stutzle fights off a hold by Flyers defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen and slides the puck into the empty net for Ottawa’s final goal of the game on Saturday. The Senators arrived in Philadelphia early Friday feeling like they had left a point behind in New Jersey following Thursday’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Devils. After Forsberg kept them in the game with a 20-save second period, they rallied to send the game to extra time.
