Talking about the Redblacks' bizarre quarterback circumstances, offensive co-ordinator Khari Jones says he's never seen anything like it.
Two weeks, two starting quarterbacks injured and gone for the rest of the season. For the Ottawa Redblacks, it’s been a rollercoaster ride, with their newest starter, Dustin Crum, fourth on the depth chart not long ago, now the No. 1 guy.Jones, the Redblacks offensive co-ordinator, says it reminds him a bit of the 2018 season in Montreal, when the Alouettes had five different starting quarterbacks – Johnny Manziel, Drew Willy, Antonio Pipkin, Vernon Adams and Jeff Mathews.
“I feel good about him,” said Jones. “There aren’t many guys who have started off first-string. There’s a reason why the quarterback position is so difficult to be really great at. It takes time, it takes experience. There’s a lot of knowledge that builds up over the years. Most of the guys who are great have been developed. Look at who we’re playing from Winnipeg. He had his trials and tribulations and he’s now one of the top guys in the league. You can say that about all of them.
Signed by the Redblacks earlier this week, the 25-year-old made the Winnipeg Blue Bombers out of training camp. He was released a couple of weeks ago when Dakota Prukop returned to the Bombers. With season-ending injuries to Jeremiah Masoli and Tyrie Adams, the Redblacks needed reinforcements.
