Const. Kristina Neilson faced dismissal after professional misconduct charges were brought against her in September under the Police Services Act, but she ended up receiving a lesser penalty after pleading guilty to discreditable conduct.

That sentence came with a pointed rebuke from the officer who presided over Neilson’s hearing, who said she had damaged the reputation of the Ottawa Police Service.

“Unfortunately, instances of real and perceived police officers’ support for the illegal occupiers have received much attention and criticism and had a significant detrimental effect on the reputation of the OPS.

The GiveSendGo donor list was hacked and the whistleblower collective Distributed Denial of Secrets posted it online. The group denied it was responsible for the hack.that more than a dozen police officers from three Ontario services — Ottawa, Toronto and the OPP — appeared on the leaked donors list. The story did not name the officers who donated.

“The Freedom Convoy and the ultimate illegal occupation has been unprecedented in our city and resulted in overt, defiant, and illegal acts that have shaken the very core of our society. An integrated, unified police operation was necessary to end the illegal occupation,” wrote Renwick in his decision.
