The Confederation Line was shut down Wednesday for the third consecutive day as inspections of wheel assemblies continued.
“We put a tremendous amount of money into the LRT. We handed it over to the City of Ottawa and, I don’t know, it was a mess, is all I can say. The inquiry said everything,” the premier told reporters Wednesday while in Ottawa for an unrelated announcement.Ford said the previous mayor and previous administration were accountable for the situation involving the LRT.
A routine inspection Monday found one car had an axle assembly with excessive grease and was looser than allowable for safety reasons. “This change is being made to increase reliability and mitigate traffic issues that impact bus service,” she said. Nor have any faults been found during an end-to-end inspection of the train tracks. Crews have also been studying the track geometry by taking detailed “measurement of key rail infrastructure, like the distance between rails and other key metrics.” Analysis of those measurements is ongoing.
