Joshua\u0027s Law, introduced by Conservative Goldie Ghamari, was inspired by the death of an 11\u002Dyear old boy.
Since the accident, Joshua’s mother, Cara McNulty, has advocated for boat safety and stricter life-jacket laws. In 2018, she foundedto raise awareness and work toward improving legislation on youth boat safety.
“We’re not here to punish anyone. The purpose of the legislation, really, is to just raise awareness, and so I think having that fine there at $200, it’s a reasonable amount, just so that parents and guardians can take the legislation seriously,” Ghamari said.
