Oshawa Fire Chief Derrick Clark is being honoured by the city ahead of his retirement in July.In 2022, theciting his leadership and support for mental well-being amongst firefighters.

That same year, he received the Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal from Governor General Mary Simon, for his years of service. During Clark’s time as chief, Oshawa Fire Services have opened a new training facility, welcomed in their largest graduating class , tackled pandemic-related obstacles, introduced the, struck partnerships to expand mental health services for staff and included Naloxone kits in firefighters’ medical services.

Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Barkwell will take over as Oshawa’ Fire Chief on August 1. He has been with the service since 1999. “The City of Oshawa thanks Chief Clark for his commitment and dedication to Oshawa Fire Services and the great City of Oshawa,” said Mayor Dan Carter. “Chief Clark has revolutionized Fire Services in our city, enhancing fire protection and emergency services for our residents and businesses and advancing elite training for our firefighters.
