The officer had attempted to stop the driver of the truck, who then rammed into the police vehicle, causing it to roll off the road and into the culvert, police said.
The officer was taken to an Ottawa hospital via Ornge air ambulance with serious but not life-threatening injuries, the OPP said.
The Highway 401 on and off ramps eastbound at Lancaster were both closed for the investigation. There was also a partial lane closure impacting the right-lane eastbound. OPP technical collision investigators, a reconstructionist, forensic identification services and aviation services were assisting in the investigation.
Anyone with information on the incident was asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 and might be eligible to receive a cash reward.
